Par une belle matinée de Floréal en l'an CCCI, un dénommé Capet se trouve enfermé dans un cachot de la Conciergerie. Ce soi-disant Louis LXXXXVI nourrit toujours le fol espoir d'être acclamé par la foule et restauré au trône de ses aieux. Mais Minimilen Jupescaillou sçut dégriffer ce tigre sanguinaire qui déchiroit le sein de sa mère, ce scélérat qui - quel outrage! - qui nous réduiroit à l'antique esclavage! Un complot royaliste, sournoisement ourdi à Versailles, fut déjoué grâce aux efforts de l'Incorruptible. En quelques heures l'ancien tyran en herbe sortira de ses ténèbres souterrains à l'éblouissant soleil d'une cité libre. Les rues sont déjà bordées par une double haie de sans-culottes indignés, prêts à conspuer le prétendant et à faire pleuvoir des ordures sur cette tête hautaine si précairement attaché au corps. Une fois le tombereau arrivé à la Place de la Révolution on lui fera la barbe à l'aide du Rasoir National...

Louis Capet does not know the sun is shining from the springtime sky. It is the month of Floréal in the year CCCI of the Republic, and the pretender waits in a damp cell deep in the dreaded Conciergerie. This self-proclaimed Louis LXXXXVI clings to the vain hope that the people will hail him as their sovereign and place him on the ignoble throne of his ancestors. But Minimilien Jupescaillou, the Incorruptible, has exposed a sinister royalist plot hatched at Versailles. Soon the bloody traitor, the monster who tears at the breast of his motherland, the would-be tyrant who seeks to restore our ancient slavery, will be led from the shadows of his dungeon into the blinding light of a free city. Already the streets are lined with sans-culottes, awaiting the chance to vent their rage by hurling tripe, snails and overcooked truffles at a head so tenuously attached to its body. Once the tumbrel arrives at the Place de la Révolution, the last of the Bourbons will enjoy a close shave under the blade of the Rasoir National.
